Back in August, we invited you to participate in a survey for The national Arc to learn more about the community and better understand your needs and thoughts on the direction the organization should take in the new year.

Over 3,500 people participated, an impressive number! Results are now in, and they reveal some interesting facts. Some I was particularly intrigued by:

The majority of the participants were from Pennsylvania (8.24 percent). New Jersey respondents followed (7.19 percent). I think that shows people from our local region are highly engaged in these matters, and care about improving the lives of the developmentally disabled.

Sixty percent of respondents believe The Arc of the U.S. is highly successful in achieving its mission. Good feedback that we’re on the right track, but improvement can always be made!

Participants believe advocacy system change is dependent upon their local government (68 percent), local employers (60 percent), local school system (56 percent), and local health care providers (56 percent).

I think this shows there are several players involved in bringing equality to the developmentally disabled. It’s a team effort that cannot be achieved by any one player alone.

But this is only skimming the surface. Peruse the full survey findings and see what you conclude. What are your thoughts on where we go from here?
